Thinking and staying positive
I love this! Let it sink in…
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28, NIV)
God wants to give you rest. He wants to refresh and restore your soul — your mind, will and emotions. It’s so easy to get caught up in the “busyness” of life, and before long, your mind, will and emotions are so “spun up” that you can barely think straight! But even in the hustle of life, you can find rest, ease and relaxation. God wants you to enjoy your life. That’s why He tells us to come to Him. God wants to take care of everything that concerns you so that you can find rest in your innermost being.
Imagine how you would feel if someone came up to you today and said, “Give me all of your monthly bills; I’m going to pay them.” You’d get pretty excited, wouldn’t you? But it wouldn’t happen until you did your part to actually hand that person your bills. They can’t pay them for you if you never release them. In the same way, when we release our cares and concerns to God, He promises to take care of them.
Today, choose to release your cares to the Lord. Let Him fill you with His peace and joy. Receive the rest that He promises and enjoy the fulfillment and blessing He has for you!
Advice I got from a wise man
I love ABC’S Scandal! And I’m loving Capt. Jake Ballard’s bold move on Liv. I’ve been so #TeamFitz I almost overlooked him. Get it Liv…make’em duke it out. You’re worth it, honey!
Q. Wallis, star of the hit independent film Beasts of the Southern Wild, is poised to be the youngest actress to win an Academy Award. Given that she’s cuter than Christmas and plays a triumphant character named, Hush Puppy, who battles her own beasts of loss, parental death, and displacement; Wallis’ performance is nothing less than stellar.
Although the movie was a solid B, Wallis’ age at the time of performance shows great strength as a performer. One can only imagine what this young girl had to muster to play a tender, inquisitive, and even courageous young girl living amongst squalor with no mother and an ailing (and questionable but loving) father.
One of her best scenes involved Wallis leading a brigade of children in their undergarments, to return to their beloved ‘Bathtub’ homeland. The scene required tenacity, clarity and leadership. Miss Wallis deserves to be amongst the Jodie Fosters and Drew Barrymores of Hollywood..with a dab of caramel!
D.C.’s favorite food truck teamed up with D.C.’s favorite cupcake shop to bring customers the Sweet-N-Cheesy event! Team CapMac consisting of Chef Brian Arnoff and Chef Vickie Harris were on site at CakeLove’s Downtown Silver Spring location serving up samples of their Marco Polo Mac (mac-n-cheese with red wine meat sauce) and their original mac (mac-n-cheese with extra cheese, topped with cheez-its).

CakeLove owner, Warren Brown, was on hand serving up 6 of their new cream cheese flavors which will be available for purchase later this year. Customers were encouraged to think of names for each of their flavors ranging from chocolate, vanilla, lemon, coffee, nutella, and peanut butter. Ultimately peanut butter and coffee won…I wonder if they can be sold together…swirly style?

Earlier this week I took a road trip down to the A-T-L. Going to my birthplace always centers me and reminds of what’s right in the world- food! I enjoyed luscious food and discovered new cupcakes shops while there. Good times! Check it out:
Nestled in a busy shopping center in Buckhead is the bustling CamiCakes. Pink from tip-to-stern this neatly presented cupcake shop featured 10 different flavors of perfectly-portioned cupcakes waiting to be eaten. I walked away with a banana cream cupcake and a strawberries-n-cream cupcake for $5.89. By far the best cupcakes in Atlanta!
Owned by a family corporation, Cheerwine is a cherry-based soft drink and a fan favorite found only in the Carolina region. A brief stop at the Quick Trip for gas and I popped in for a bit of my own cheer (wine). After a swig or two I concluded that it’s decent but definitely local.
I stopped at a little spot called, The Cookout, in North Carolina. The Cookout features grilled food (hot dogs, hamburgers, and BBQ chicken) and southern classics like hush puppies, fried fish sandwiches, and over 40 milkshake flavors! The service was awesome and I walked away with a 1/4lb. cheeseburger, coleslaw, hush puppies, corn dog and a banana-pineapple milk shake for $7.50. Oh how I love the South!
GiGi’s Cupcakes in Buckhead
Gigi’s Cupcakes is a popular franchise in the south whom I have deemed the beauty queens of cupcakes. Gigi’s packaging and presentation is flawless and friendly with huge cupcakes featuring large crowns of frosting. I walked away with a Kentucky bourbon pie cupcake and a chocolate covered strawberry cupcake totaling $8.59. Visit my Instagram to see how the KBP cupcake drove folks crazy!
Little Cake Bakery
After getting a quick manicure from Nail Favors in Buckhead, I happened upon a little place called Little Cake Bakery. A quaint shop that featured 6 flavors for $2.50 each. After debating between the Samoan and the mint julep, I chose The Marie Antoinette; their crown jewel of flavors. The cordial cupcake was a vanilla cupcake with a raspberry jam center topped with caramel drizzle (reminiscent of gold ornate) and finished with whipped cream and a cherry. It was gorgeous!
Pinkberry will now be known as ‘Crackberry’. I tried it for the first time and I’m addicted. The awesome staff explained the process to me and I ordered a coconut froyo with mangoes, pineapples, shaved coconut and a side of Cap-N-Crunch for texture. Let me tell you, I’m in love! I’m talking googly-eyed married in Paris love. It begged the question, “How have I been living (without you)?!?”
Keebler’s Danish Wedding Cookies are my favorite cookies in the world! They’re nostalgic and remind me of my grandmother and are times together in Georgia. These rare delicacies of powdered sugar, walnuts and chocolate chips are primarily found in the southern Atlantic region. Whenever I take a trip down south, I always stop into the grocery store to buy out the block!
After several hours on the road, my first stop was into a Starbucks for some liquid refreshment and a wifi hotspot. In true southern fashion it was service with a smile and the iced Tazo Joy tea was extra delish.
Thank you A-T-L…aka The Jewel of the South!
